DISCOVER TWOL24 FASHION MOVIE – INTERVIEW WITH DJODJO&VERSTEEG

On the 17th of May 2016, TWOL24 presented its first corporate fashion film to the fashion and art world. We would like to introduce you now to the production team: The duo artist Versteeg and Djojo. Their work combines photography and make up to create unique atmospheres. The visual piece of art made by the duo has a powerful aesthetic side with a series of dark portraits. Today, we answer your questions with an interview made by Aude Chalot with the artists for BLEND\BUREAUX. By producing the TWOL24 fashion movie, the artists designed a way to ‘’take off where your imagination starts.

Where did you find inspiration for this project?

D&R. : “We got most of our inspiration from the clothing made by the designers featured in the video. The hardest part of making the video was finding a way to mix up the variety of clothing so they would work together in one film. But, of course, the easiest part was to get the image right, because all of the pieces we used fit perfectly into the video, especially because they were worn by our beautiful model Dorith Mous!”

What was your artistic line to follow?

D&R. : “When we met Jurriaan, we talked a lot about the platform’s statement, what the overall appearance looks like and what kind of imagery would communicate TWOL24 in the best possible way. After this we started shooting the designs in a setting of which we thought would communicate and empower their feel. We always work in a conceptual way, which leaves no room for errors or mistakes. We approached each shot as a photograph and carefully decided what it is that should be moving.”

How did you choose to represent TWOL24’s identity in this video?

D&R. : “We chose to stay as close to the platform as we possibly could, while maintaining our personal style. TWOL24 is a platform for artists, designers and photographers, featuring independent labels with unique and high quality products. We wanted the video to have an international and high fashion feel, just like the platform has. We love it, because it is a global marketplace for artist to showcase their work but also offers them a platform to sell it on.”

Why did you choose Dorith Mous to integrate the fashion movie? And, who is the other character?

D&R. : “Dorith Mous was an obvious choice for us. She has a lot of experience with photography and motion, behind and in front of the camera. We met each other for the first time during this shoot in the studio and immediately had the same feel and artistic vibe on what we wanted the video to look like. We showed her some of the shots we already made and asked her to do what she thought was best for the video. The first shot we filmed with Dorith was already done in a minute, after that we just had a lot of fun filming and coming up with ideas that we could use. Her movement was exactly what we were looking for, and the best thing about her is that she just does what she feels at the moment and it looks amazing!”

What was the reason to make this project? And, what was your goal to achieve this movie?

D&R. : “Jurriaan actually asked us to create this video for TWOL24. Our goal is to create an all over impression and feel that connects to the audience and of course represents the designers. For us personally, this video was a great opportunity to develop our video skills and thinking about motion in a different kind of way. We love photography but we’re sure this isn’t the last video project we’ve done and there are already some new plans in the making.”
