DUTCH DESIGN WEEK 2015: BLANCCOLLECTIVE’S CONCEPTS OF BEAUTY

Once again, we address Dutch design aficionados! Dutch Design Week 2015 is in full swing, exhibiting the best of Dutch design in Eindhoven until October 25th. BLEND\BUREAUX decided to make your life a little bit easier and look at the most captivating expositions. With more than a hundred locations, DDW boasts a wide variety of exhibitions, guaranteed to offer something appealing for everyone.

“Concepts of Beauty” is an exhibition worthy of a visit. It’s an exploration of the notions of beauty by BLANCCOLLECTIVE, a debuting group consisting of 10 designers with completely different backgrounds. Each designer’s journey starts with a symbolic BLANC canvas. Although the work originates form a single concept, there will not be consensus amongst the designers regarding the vision, as the group believes beauty lies in the eye of the beholder.

BLANCCOLLECTIVE is formed by designers Desirée Wevers, Djim Berger, Frank Verkade, Malou van Dijck, Laura Koenen, Alejandro Cerón, Martina Lasinger, Yorgos Bournousouzis, Victoria Ledig and Kim van Hoenselaar.

Each work illustrates a different thought process, formed by the artist’s personal background. The exhibition explores the limits of materials, lead by an atmosphere of delicate hues. For instance, Djim Berger experiments with a new material – mix of porcelain and natural fibers – to enrich an object’s structural and visual identity, but also to give it an extra dimension. Martina Lasinger’s work explores beauty from a neurological perspective. Since humans can be taught, to some extent, what beauty means, she looks at how the human nervous system experiences beauty.

Kelderman and van Noort, the location for “Concepts of Beauty”, is an exhibition and studio space for young contemporary art. Founded in 2007, it regularly holds workshops and other activities, free of admission fees. The gallery often collaborates with various artists, musicians and other creatives, resulting in numerous initiatives within and outside of the gallery.

Don’t miss your chance to get acquainted with the conceptual side of beauty! The exhibition is open every day until October 25th from 12:00-20:00, at gallery Kelderman en van Noort, Nachtegaallaan 13a, 5613CM Eindhoven. See you there!
