DUTCH DESIGN WEEK 2015: FUTURE FOOTPRINTS & CIRCULAR MATERIALISM

This is a call for all the Dutch design aficionados! Is there a visit to Eindhoven planned into you calendar for this week already? If not, this is your last chance because Dutch Design Week 2015 will welcome crowds only up to October 25th! Since the list of options for good design seems endless, you might find yourself puzzled as to which exhibition to visit. But fear not, because we at BLEND\BUREAUX decided to make your life a little bit easier and took a closer look at some of the most captivating exhibitions from Dutch Design Week 2015.

An exhibition that is well worth your time is “Future Footprints” by Material Sense. An exposition presenting products and raw materials interpreted in new ways, it features a number of artists and designers who focus on circular materialism. It is an exploration of sustainability, with a special spotlight on consumer contribution and the meaning of materials in a feasible society. New uses are found for old or common materials. For instance, you can find jewellery made from sliced apples, freezing the fruit in time. According to Material Sense, footprints of the past become an important part of the way forward.

Material Sense is a studio that lobbies for material-oriented design and development of products. They focus on the interactivity of material products through the integration of materials and technologies, holding sustainability and the circular economy close to their hearts. As a curator of “Future Footprints”, Material Sense is taking part of Dutch Design Week for the second year in a row. Following last year’s success, they are set on outdoing themselves to amaze and astound, even shock the audience. By redefining society’s relationship with objects, they want to enhance the physical and emotional value of objects.
