Wallflowers that cannot be missed

SKV03

While a wallflower normally seems unpopular and shy, these wallflowers catch your eye immediately. For her latest series the young and talented photographer Sarah Kirsten Vlekke tried to let the viewer think about people who are trapped in their own surroundings. But is it the background that matches the model, or the model that matches the background?

People who are trapped in their own surroundings. This scenery is both a metaphor and a reality because of the uncommon approach of the subject. The clothing and the environment make sure you question the model versus the background when you look at Sarah’s work. With her images she wants to show that every individual is unique. Every photograph is very different though her style remains the same. The individual that takes place in front of the camera determines the look and feel of the whole.

Sarah carefully organizes her shots. For her conceptual photographs she is on top of every detail in order to get the the perfect image. Thinking about all the small details, the maintenance and the quality of every picture. “The way my pictures are visualized in the end is already part of the plan at the start of the process”, she told us.

Sarah Kirsten Vlekke graduated from the photography program at Het Grafisch Lyceum in 2013. Find more of her work here.
