Fashion label Chromat and its designer Becca McCharen are at the forefront of merging fashion and technology. Their garments are not only high-tech and sophisticated, but also serve as structural experiments for the human body aiming to reveal the human desire for clothing that transcends our basic needs. McCharen couples her background in urban design and architecture with a talent for fashion design, that gave rise to this innovative label that counted technological advancement as a core value since its foundation. A 3D component has recently been incorporated more and more in fashion and we are starting to become used to the presence of technology in our clothing, rendering our wardrobe beyond the two dimensional.

For this lookbook, the brand has teamed up with new technologies such as Lytro Illum, who introduce Light Field Photography to the world of fashion, bringing the pieces to life in multiple dimensions and changing the way of telling stories. Hologram technology and 3D modelling are changing visuals as a whole.

Using non-traditional materials and new construction techniques allows for a new conceptualization of garments: “Our use of technology continues to evolve each season. We have employed the use of wearable semi-conductor light source technology as decorative elements to adorn traditional sculptures of the body.” – McCharen.
