Last Wednesday night BLOOOM Award by Warsteiner had its prize-giving ceremony in the impressive Koelnmesse in Cologne, Germany. The big winner was Igor Simic who received his trophy out of the hands of Warsteiner CEO Catharina Cramer.

The Serbian artist convinced the jury with his exceptional short film ‘The Thinker In The Supermarket‘, which also reached the official selection of the Edinburgh International Film Festival 2013. His victory at BLOOOM Award will be rewarded with the mentorship of one of the jurors for one year and a trip to Art Basel Miami Beach. The second place went to Alexander Becherer from Germany for his work ‘Paratropolis‘, a gigantic and apocalyptic miniature city which currently remains in an unfinished state. He won a trip to Art Paris and the opportunity to exhibit in a German gallery. Ramon Schoonbrood (Belgium) won third place with ‘My Worthless Life‘, a piece which is adapted to every space it is exhibited in. Schoonbrood will be mentored by one of the jurors during one complete day.

The unique and varied works of all finalists were on show until 3rd November at BLOOOM as part of ART.FAIR. For most of the finalists, this is their first big art fair of their careers. Last year’s winner, Johanna Flammer, had her first solo show during ART.FAIR 2013.

This was the competition’s fourth edition and since 2012 it is open for artists from all over the world. A total of 1.125 young artists from 55 countries grabbed their chance to get noticed in the art scene. The entries were judged by Catharina Cramer, CEO Warsteiner brewery, Walter Gehlen, co-director and artistic leader of ART.FAIR and BLOOOM, conservatrix and art journalist Yasha Young, photographer and gallery owner Oliver Rathk, and artist Stefan Strumbel.
