Great Art In Ugly Rooms
What’s in a name? Great Art In Ugly Rooms is a tumblr blog which contrasts some of the greatest artworks of the previous century with some of the ugliest interiors found on the Internet.
Important pieces of art are most often to be viewed in museums with white walls and other means to not distract the audience from the art. This tumblr is aimed at the exact opposite by recontextualizing iconic sculptures and canvases, pulling them away from their pristine halls and placing them into – let’s face it – very ugly interiors.
It all started when the mysterious founder of the blog and a friend discovered a catalogue picture which used a work by Kaz Oshiro as a background prop. They then began to search the Internet for images of suburban interiors to pair with superb works of art. Have a look at some of them below. And if you can’t get enough; there is always the possibility to send in your own suggestions on their tumblr.
