Stelarc @ STRP

stelarc

Stelarc is considered the ‘godfather of cyborg art’ and is mainly known for his supensions during which he inserts flesh hooks into his body and suspends himself in the air. On 1-2 March, he will be at STRP in Eindhoven. In more recent years, he has developed an arm prosthesis and external skeletons. This art focuses on extending the capabilities of the human body and most of his pieces are centered around the concept that the human body is obsolete. Stelarc believes in body augmentation rather than body modification. Therefore his works often involve robotics or other modern technology, integrated within his body. The cell-grown ear he had surgically transplanted onto his left arm is a prime example of this. Another example is the six-legged Exoskeleton which allows him to move like a pneumatically powered metal spider.

Stelarc performs at STRP’s opening night on 1st March (22h15 – 22h45). On 2nd March, he gives a lecture in the Light Lounge from 15h00 – 16h00.
