Motel Mozaique 2013

Motel-Mozaique-2013

This year’s edition (number 13 already!) of Motel Mozaïque takes place on Friday 5th and Saturday 6th April, on diverse locations in the centre of Rotterdam. The arts festival has now added two new names to the music program: Woodkid and The Veils.

Woodkid – aka Yoann Lemoine – is a French multi-instrumentalist, singer, photographer, and ambitious video director. He has produced a series of award-winning videos and the videos for his own singles ‘Iron’, ‘Run Boy Run’, and ‘I Love You’ have reached 23 million views on Youtube. His music is equally remarkable due to its dark, haunting pop in which he plays with elements from electro and film music. Sometimes versatile and classical mixed with tribal percussion, sometimes stubborn singer-songwriterpop. His voice is deep and eerie, and is considered a crossing between Tindersticks’ Stuart Staples and Antony (and the Johnsons). Woodkid’s debut album The Golden Age will be released on 18th March and he will be the closing act of Motel Mozaïque on 6th April in Schouwburg Rotterdam.

The Veils (NZ/GB) is singer-songwriter Finn Andrews’ indie rock band, who are notorious for their chaotic live shows. Andrews is a singer with a demure and very personal mood, who sounds like a mix between Nick Cave, John Cale, and Jeff Buckley. Their most recent album Sun Gangs dates back to 2009, but on 5th April during Motel Mozaïque, they will release their new LP Time Stays, We Go. The album will contain a lot of drama and strong, emotional rock songs.

Other new names are Young Dreams (NO), S O H N (AT/GB), Wild Belle (US), Nick Mulvey (GB), and Night Beds (US). The following acts were already confirmed: John Grant (US), José James (US), Jaga Jazzist (NO) & Sinfonia Rotterdam, Torre Florim & Roos Rebergen: De Tweede Speeldoos (NL), Stornoway (GB), AlunaGeorge (GB), Daughter (GB), Bryony Kimmings (GB), and Art is a BATTLEFIELD.

There are also a couple of new names for the expressive arts program: Gyz la Rivière, Télésync, Mapije Fun Design, and Ramsey Nasr.

All-day tickets are available at http://www.motelmozaique.nl and cost €65.
