Stine Goya

Written by Margaux Villard

Stine Goya is a great embodiment of what Scandinavian design has best to offer when it comes to fashion. The brand created in 2006 in Copenhagen by the eponymous designer has all the classical characteristics for which Nordic designers are now renowned; minimalism and sculptural pieces are common words of her creative vocabulary, but her brand is mostly recognizable from the usual Nordic crowd through the ultra-feminine touch she manages to infuse into her garments.

Her latest show to date, “La Parade Merveilleuse” for her Spring Summer collection 13, displayed silky floating and graceful textiles and had a somewhat insouciance that could appeal to a more girly type of woman looking for clothes halfway between modernism and romanticism, which was mainly implied by the glitters and pastel colours ranging from light pink to sand tones. The recurrence of diamonds incorporated in the prints or painted on the faces of the models for the show, was representative of the harlequins and especially Pierrot and Columbine from which she drew her inspiration for this collection.

All in all, the brand succeeds in applying a more casual touch to her Scandinavian roots and to make it wearable in the daily life which is expected for a brand whose mantra is” to create beautiful fashion that adhere to people who see authenticity and individuality in the everyday”.

Throughout her collections, her relaxed yet refined touch is perceptible, whether in her Autumn Winter 2012 collection, in which the Gloom jacket conveys a feeling of coziness and comfort, and looks like a beautifully shaped duvet draped around the body; or in the Spring Summer 2012 collection for which she used delicate fabrics to achieve flowing textures.

The designer, who graduated from the Central Saint Martins School in 2005 with a degree in fashion and print, has set her own tone for each collection which has got her international recognition and amongst others the DANSK award for designer of the year 2011.
