GRIND

Helsinki-based director Miikka Lommi has created the video GRIND as a playful take on dancehall culture, which became increasingly popular in the nineties. The video features dancers of House of Queens and is played in slowmotion, which gives a rather hypnotizing effect, whilst at the same time the pairing of the sexual moves with slow piano music (instead of the usual fast and fat dancehall beats) makes for a rather absurd combinatio. GRIND was originally made for gallery/museum KIASMA for the exhibition “Thank you for the music”.
