DUTCH FASHION APPEARS IN FASHION WEEK OF SHANGHAI

The Dutch contingent’s maiden show at this year’s Shanghai Fashion Week on Sunday evening was by far the most outrageous yet (sending a model down the runway with a shirt pulled over his head – really?) Wigs, masks, elaborate headgear and wacky shoes by United Nude, the country that gave us famous fashion duo Viktor & Rolf pulled out all stops in showing Shanghai fashionisto and fashionista what else they have to offer.

The first part of the segment, Dutch Fashion Graduates Here & Now, presented pieces by Marije de Haan, Floor Kolen, and Musa Shah, all of whom are top graduates of three Dutch academies: the AMFI-Amsterdam Fashion Institute, the Royal Academy of Art in the Hague and the Willem de Kooning Academy Rotterdam. The second half, the Dutch Fashion Avant-Garde Here & Now show, showcased the work of four already established Dutch designers: splashes of colour and floaty fabrics from Mattijs van Bergen, chic-but-comfortable streetwear from Daryl van Wouw, grungy leather pieces by Avelon and over-the-top designs from And Beyond.

Post-show, buses were even chartered to send show-goers over to Club DROP to break it down to ‘choons from two Dutch DJs, Joost van Bellen and DJ Sanyi at the after-party. For innovative designs and all the effort that went into making sure everyone had a good time, hup Holland hup, we say!
