Every first Saturday of November museums in Amsterdam shake up their stuffy images and stay open until 2am for the annual Museum Night. Permanent collections and temporary exhibitions are being funked up with live music, DJ’s, dance, performances, films, special tours, trippy sound scape installations, food, and lots of drinks. One ticket will allow you to enter 45 museums, free use of all public transport and one free museum visit valid until December 31.

But even when bringing the youth closer to the rich cultural heritage and contemporary art of The Netherlands since 12 years, the all round cutting of budgets for the cultural sector doesn’t stop at Museum Night. Therefore the organizers of Museum Night started a crowd funding campaign on Voordekunst.nl to finance the opening ceremony -called Sonic Architecture- at the Open Pleyn of the brand new Scheepvaartmuseum. Every little bit helps.

Highlights of this year’s Museum Night include:

Light Projections at Hollandsche Schouwburg

Sonic Architecture and music by 22Tracks at Scheepsvaartmuseum

Red Light Radio and magic constructions at W139

Subbacultcha and 3D printing at FOAM

Brazilian Waxing at the Oude Kerk

Jazz, Candlelight and kosher wine at the Portuguese Synagogue

Shanghai Gestures and Dutch designers at Museum Willet-Holthuysen

Pimp Your Shirt at Verzetsmuseum Amsterdam

Live Tattooing by Mexican legends at the Tattoo Museum

Artis Aquarium at night
