Green Boxes by Mark Jenkins & Hussein Chalayan
The Green Box Project has been taking art to the streets for the past 2 months, bringing art, music, fashion and design to life through augmented reality on your smart phone.
The latest Green Box is street artist Mark Jenkins’ signature absurdist sculptural work at Mary Brickell Village, Miami. Created using clear packing tape, Jenkins applied his “streets as the stage” manifesto on the augmented side of life. Using the Beck’s Key App, four different art pieces appear: a meditating hooded character, a rotating adult tape sculpture, a man stuck upside down with wiggling feet and his trademark flower stop sign.
Last weekend, Milan saw the launch of Green Boxes from celebrated fashion designers Hissein Chalayan and Alice Waese. Chalayanʼs artwork is inspired by one of the designerʼs most iconic looks from his AW98 collection entitled Panoramic, spinning in serenity on a pedestal, in the midst of the cityscape. Waese ‘s exclusively created jacket twirls like a marionette above her Green Box. From intimate sketches to the raw leather cuttings seemingly hand-stitching themselves, her piece accentuates the mark of the maker, the needle and thread. Keep your eyes peeled for more info on where their artworks were popping up during Milan Fashion Week.
