London Fashion Week Special : Blocks and the Crying Sensation

Like Lego bricks in a child’s construction, block colors are pulling together the pieces of any season. Whether it be a toga garment, such as Maria Grachvogel’s yellow billowing beauty, or Martin Van Der Horst’s pastel frilled suits, color is extremely important for the S/S12 collection on view at London Fashion Week.

Pastels and bold yellow tones are on full display. Meadham Kirchhoff’s S/S12 collection stood out in quality -making people cry- and encapsulated the current spring colors. It was called ‘A Wolf in Lamb’s Clothing’ and dedicated to young fashion blogger Tavi, in that Meadham and Kirchhoff thought about what it means to be a girl. Not just any girl, but girls who are set apart from the normal: the starlets, showgirls, beauty pageant winners, models, and princesses.
They wanted to take them off their pedestal and put real girls up there. Something which designers are always attempting, however, bringing people to tears I think showed that Meadham and Kirchhoff accomplished this mission.
