Introducing Sean McGinnis – Le Webmaster

Based in Paris since 1997, Sean McGinnis is an artist still little known to the general public but whose work is acclaimed by international critics and has been featured in high-level exhibitions around the world.

McGinnis’s work consists in creating sculptures that are essentially made of strings and ropes (often in bright colors) which are intersected and woven into complex webs, to eventually form hybrid architectural arches that take hold from the anchoring points already existing in each of the places they inhabit.

These abstract sculptures defy gravity and often contrast with the environment within which they evolve; whether urban or in the middle of a luxuriant nature. Created on site, these ephemeral entities are intimately linked to their respective sites. The process of installation is an important part of the sculpture itself. Once created, they cannot be moved and most are dismantled after each exhibition.

Earlier this year, McGinnis took over as artistic director of the exhibition “Synergy between Art & Fashion” which was sponsored by the famous Moscow concept store CARA & CO to benefit the charity ‘The Sound World’… which cares for deaf children. The event, held during the last Paris Fashion Week (March 2011) in partnership with Vendôme Luxury and the Hotel Le Meurice… has been critically acclaimed internationally.

McGinnis is preparing his first major exhibition in Berlin, which has been commissioned by Illustrative art gallery. The event will take place at Direktorenhaus from October 28 until next January 2012.

Additionally to a series of creative collaborations happening later this year, Sean McGinnis is currently working on a groundbreaking project, entitled “The Cathedral of the Wind” which will be unveiled in the year 2013.

Sean McGinnis holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in Ceramic Sculpture, a Bachelors of Arts Degree in Art History from Fort Hays State University in Kansa as well as a Master of Fine Arts in ceramic sculpture from the University of Arizona, Tucson
