I am a 22 year old architectural photographer from the middle of England. I have always been fascinated by the spread of urban environments; the furious speed in which we are evolving as a race and the self destructive nature of our actions upon the environment. I like to see the side of this ongoing process that is often ignored or unknown, creating thought provoking and often informative imagery.
“Foundations” is a testament to the old streets of Shanghai. The streets have been here since before any of the megastructures of the new Shanghai; they have lived through the complete reinvention of the surrounding city, and now they stand in the way of progress, awaiting demolition to become the foundations of a new megacity.
“Hinterland” is about the destruction of natural environments to make room for our urban sprawls, and the bizarre world that has arisen from our original landscape. Images show the original geography pre-development, and places within our current urban environments in the same scene, bringing old and new together. Creation of each composite images involves a lot of location scouting, precise composition, flashguns, long exposures and days of editing. This is an ongoing project that I am currently adding to, so keep posted.
I am very glad to have placed Bronze in the Silver Iris Photography Competition, hosted by Creative Review and Corbis. My work will be showcased at the Photography Annual opening in London around October 17th.
