BLEND 6 \ ARTIST IN EXILE

Visual artist Shirin Neshat is one of the most well known female artists to emerge from the Middle East. Born in Qazvin, Iran in 1957, she moved to the U.S. to study art just before the Islamic revolution of 1979, after which she was exiled and couldn’t return until 11 years later. Her work not only symbolizes her personal anxiety and pain due to the separation from her country, it also functions as an exploration of contrasts within the Islamic community. We present you with a selection of Neshat’s video works.
