As you all may know the biggest fashion event in the Netherlands is taking place as we speak. This year’s concept of the Arnhem Fashion Biennale (AFB) is the search for fashion’s true identity, which is personified in the fictive Amber. With the help of numerous designers ranging from Prada to young talented fashion graduates of Artez, AFB will have identified all that fashion is at the end of the event. This will happen through exhibitions, workshops, lectures and presentations. Since the hottest fashion event in the country has so much to offer we wanted to make it easier for you and pre-select a few cool happenings.

The first must-see is of course the main exhibition of Amber that runs until the end of AFB. A journey in which fashion is personified in all that is fashion from the smell of it to the disciplines used in and for fashion. In this exhibition fashion gets a name, look and is made psychical in every possible way.

Amber’s Surprise is a big fashion show held on June 24. During this spectacle you’ll get an exclusive look in the closet of Amber. What would the wardrobe of fashion itself look like?

Besides spectating Amber you can also participate in several workshops to experience fashion yourself. You can join a workshop in making leather belts or leather bags, or learn how to moulage, the oldest way of making clothes as you drape fabrics around a dummy creating designs. Last but not least, learn how to make an inspirational book, from the type of paper you use to the binding method: everything is your choice. Each weekend you can participate in one of these workshops.

There are lectures by international professionals about fashion, film and photography. Get to know fashion from the inside out as great names in fashion talk about the themes of AFB.

This Saturday there’s Zwart Zand Festival (Black Sand Festival), a party during the day that combines art, fashion and music. After all, there is no better way to celebrate fashion than a party on behalf of fashion.
