Art Basel – the international art fair for modern and contemporary design – starts today and runs until June 19. It’s the 42nd edition of this annually held art show, and there are over 300 international participating galleries contributing to this diverse art spectacle. An international jury of renowned gallerists selected these participants out of more than 1000 applicants. Like every year there is a diversity of disciplines, in a variety of performances, film, photography, painting, drawing, sculptures and installations. Art Basel is more of an experience than a fair, taken all the features such as the films on screen, there is an art-parcours through Basel, a spotlight for emerging artists and artistic dialogues amongst many other things.

One of the exhibitions is by Dutch artist Ted Noten. With Ornamentum Gallery he shows pieces from his series Necessities for a Woman (to feel like a woman through the eyes of a man). This series contains a nylon gun that conceals all the accessories needed by a woman. The Chanel001 gun contains a Chanel lipgloss, an antique hairpin, an USB stick and a Viagra pill amongst other accessories. Besides the Chanel001 there’s also a Dior version of the gun, The Dior001.
