Time, Place and Perception

Time, place and perception in human life are the grounds for photographer Chris Engman. The work of Engman is a bit abstract, which makes the little notes about the series on his website very helpful. Nonetheless, even without knowing the concept the photographs are very interesting. You keep looking at the images to discover new things. On the first glance you just see subjects surrounded by nature, to discover later on that not everything in the picture is supposed to be there or in that exact way. For example Three Moments, a picture that exists of three photographs taken on different dates but at the same place. So it seems you’re looking at one image but instead you see a picture in a picture in a picture.
Engman graduated from the University of Washington with a bachelor of Fine Arts photography. He exhibited in several galleries in Seattle, Los Angeles and Portland. Shortly Chris Engman will be showcasing some of his work in Europe at the French Les Rencontres D’Arles Photographie that will take place from the 4th of July to September 18.
