Remember those 2D collage postcards, often made by creative grandmothers? Seiko Kato, a Brighton-based illustrator and artist does something similar, only way cooler. She makes collages, that look like drawings or paintings, with paper cut Illustrations. The collages look like a tribute to nature with their birds, flowers and all the cheerful colours nature is blessed with.

Besides these impressive collages she illustrates, makes astonishing 3D montages and plastic collages with illustrations, nails and buttons. These works are kind of a contrast with the 2D paper cut collages as they contain a lot of skulls and a bit scary doll heads. It still looks beautiful though because they’re dressed up as porcelain dolls.

Inspirations for her work come from the old Victorian medical books, drawings, encyclopaedia and Victorian paraphernalia. Check out a selection of Seiko Kato below.
