Club Zeus
Coming June 9 Club Zeus, a Dutch film production by David Verbeek, will play in several Dutch theaters. Club Zeus premiered earlier this year at the International Filmfestival in Rotterdam, where it was selected for the Return of the Tiger program.
Club Zeus is about twenty-something people that struggle with life and love in the Chinese metropolis Shanghai. The film portrays two host boys Leonardo (24) and Sly (27), who sell their love, friendship and attention to women. Sly was one of the best host boys before he quit a year ago. He comes back to free Leonardo from the existence as a host boy but gets pulled back in the business because of that attempt. When hostess Jade hears of Sly’s return, the mystery of Sly’s departure slowly becomes clear.
Even though this film was produced in a really short time with a low budget, it still managed to become a must-see and a cultural sweet. The director David Verbeek also directed the television film Yu-Lan for the VPRO ( a Dutch tv-network) and was the first Dutch director to achieve screening in more than 250 cinemas in China with Shanghai Trance. Club Zeus will be shown in Amsterdam, Den Haag, Rotterdam, Utrecht, and Nijmegen.
