During Art Amsterdam Soledad Senlle Gallery presents the works of Zhenchen Liu, a Chinese contemporary artist who is a painter, video artist and photographer all in one. He commutes between Paris and his birthplace Shanghai, which also was the motive for this series. The exhibition contains video and photographic work that is based on the transformation which developers are responsible for as they reconstruct the neighbourhoods of Shanghai. The pictures seem a little surrealistic; the buildings and all that’s photographed looks like miniatures. Besides the fantasy feel, the pictures show damaged neighbourhoods as you see massive areas under construction.

Zhenchen Liu graduated from Fine Art College of Shanghai University in 2000 and from Ecole Nationale Superieure d’Art de Nice in 2005. His work has been shown at several international exhibitions such as the Locarno International Film Festival, the Oberhausen Festival and he won numerous prizes under which the prize for best short film at the Sao Paolo Film Festival.
