Reflex

Currently there’s a light installation called Reflex at Wellcome Trust in London. Wellcome Trust is a global foundation that supports biomedical research and medical humanities to improve human and animal health. The installation is designed by the artist collective rAndom International.

Reflex transforms the front windows of Wellcome Trust into the habitat of an organism that represents itself in the form of light. The light reacts on the people passing by. The installation is based on the decision making process of living nature such as birds and ants. Therefore it isn’t preprogrammed so it’s actually simulating natural interaction between human and nature.

rAndom international mixes art, design, science and architecture in their work. rAndom Installation tries to broaden the interpretation of digital-based work by emphasizing the interaction between audience and object in a relationship of performance. They’ve won several awards such as, a second Illy Award at Art Brussels for best solo presentation of an artist. They’re in the private collection of MoMA, New York and exhibited projects in Carpenters Workshop Gallery in London, and Galerie Volker Diehl in Berlin.

There couldn’t be a more appropriate place for this installation than Wellcome Trust. They change their front window displays once a year with an artistic interpretation, it’s their way of showing the people passing by what they do.
