Being a huge fan of both Spirograph and pendulum driven machinery, this machine is a dream come true to me. Look at it… With nothing but a couple of pendulums, a seemingly simple wooden construction and a range of coloured biros, this thing creates larger-than life graphic images which are all unique. Its builder, Copenhagen based artist Eske Rex (1977, Sweden) named it the Drawingmachine. Explaining his motivations behind the project to wired.co.uk, Rex says: ‘I am interested in the machine as a sculpture in space, a constantly changing mobile. In addition to this, the universe within the drawings is interesting by virtue of their spatial, textural, temporal qualities.’
