From May 12 until May 22, the Twente Biennial takes place. This international art festival is a rather new event with a controversial agenda of contemporary art. The subject revolves around today’s cultural topics and the influence of mass media. There are more than fifty renowned artists participating in Twente Biënnale including Banksy, Damian Hirst, Atelier van Lieshout, Jan Cremer and special guest Richard Kern.
Richard Kern will be showing some of his new works such as the film Extra Action with the music of Sonic Youth. This new project is filled with violence and pornography. Damian Hirst’s work is about nuclear weapons, a current theme nowadays that connects with the subjects death and decay, themes he often works with.
Next to the exhibition there are several features such as speeches by the artists and a debate by Dutch writer Joost Zwagerman and Dutch painter Rob Scholte, amongst others.
