Miffy in Fashion

Anrealage, 2011
Most of us grew up with the adventures of Nijntje, internationally better known as Miffy. This endearing, little rabbit was created by Dutch illustrator Dick Bruna in 1955 and grew into an international celebrity, not only as a character in Bruna’s children’s books but also as a design icon. Besides Nijntje, Bruna created many other cartoon characters and to honor his oeuvre, the Central Museum in Utrecht opened the Dick Bruna House 5 years ago. To celebrate its 5 year anniversary, Nijntje is given a whole new wardrobe by an international list of fashion designers, which include Claes Iversen (NL), Jan Taminiau (NL), Boudicca (UK) and the Japanese Minä Perhonen and Anrealage. Dick Bruna and Piet Paris also created a new dress for Nijntje on paper. All illustrations and the actual designs are on display from April 1 until December 31, together with over a hundred other fashion related work by Bruna.
