A sad day for Ai Weiwei

Shocking news from China in the New York Times; Ai Weiwei’s carefully build up studio has been destroyed by the government. The artist is known for his revolutionary pieces and his critical attitude towards the Chinese Communist Party. Weiwei spent two years building up his new Shanghai-based studio but the space was vanished in just one day.

The government had already warned Weiwei that they were going to tear down his studio but didn’t announce the planned date. Read the full article of the New York Times here. According to Weiwei, over 80 percent of his structures was destroyed during the demolishment. Weiwei recently opened his exposition in Tate Modern’s Turbine Hall, as part of the annually presented exposition in The Unilever Series.
