Friday Food \ Hotchpotch

For this week’s Friday Food we’d like to present you with a highly anticipated traditional Dutch dish called Hotchpotch, or Hutspot in Dutch. The dish’s main ingredients are potatoes, carrots and onions and although this may not seem like a refined combination of flavors, we can assure you that a proper Dutchmen likes a good plate of fresh Hotchpotch on a cold winter evening. Preferably served with a beef stew or a smoked sausage on the side.
INGREDIENTS \
1,5 kg potatoes
1 kg carrots
500 gr onions
Some butter
A pinch of salt and pepper
HOW TO PREPARE \
1. Peel and cut the potatoes into small pieces
2. Peel and cut the carrots into small pieces.
3. Peel and cut the onions into rings.
4. Fill a big pan with 0,5 liter water, add some salt and put the potatoes on the bottem of the pan. Put the carrots and onions on top.
5. Make everything boil for 25 minutes.
6. Drain the water
7. Mash the Hotchpotch and add some butter. Add salt and pepper.
8. Serve with some beef stew or smoked sausage.
