BLEND 5 – BLEND x SEBASTIAN \ THE VIBRANT TAKE

Sebastian Professional’s new campaign – with starting point Relentless Vibrant Color- inspired photographer Duy Quoc Vo and his team into making this wonderful creative stop-motion photo shoot for BLEND Magazine. During the process, every single image of the shoot was printed out and artist Petra Lunenberg illustrated it. After this, the images were put together into a nice video. View the video above and read a Q&A with the photographer after the jump.

BLEND: What was the idea behind the video?

Duy Quoc Vo: ‘The idea was to try and depict several moments of different archetypes in an abstract way. We did a lot of research and looked into a couple of music video’s from the 80s. One of the most inspiring videos we came across was the A-HA video for their song Take On Me, which features a lot of illustrations. This video was one of the most controversial videos from that time. We basically worked out our video in a similar way.’

BLEND: Can you tell us something about the production process?

Duy Quoc Vo: ‘It was a tough job because we shot the video digitally in stop motion with a high speed DSLR camera and printed out every single one of the images. Petra Lunenberg then made drawings on all of the images. After the illustrations were done we scanned all of the images an put them together.’

BLEND: What was the most crucial moment whilst creating this video?

Duy Quoc Vo: ‘The most crucial part was the scanning and animating. We couldn’t do a lot of try outs because we had a tight deadline. This put some pressure on the process since everything had to work out right away.’
