Faces of N.: the sounds of getting dressed
Faces of N is a six-track EP by Gabriel Shalom that combines music and fashion by sampling the sounds of getting dressed, edited in a supercut to make songs.
Our clothes express our personalities. But different outfits make us feel different. We might have a preferred sweater or favorite pair of boots, but on any given day our clothes only reveal one side of ourselves … The meticulous editing synchronizes to the music, music made from the raw material of the sounds of the clothes we see in the frame. This concrete musical approach is a signature for Shalom. Each video credits the various articles of clothing for the instrumental sounds they make. A blouse becomes a snare drum; an earring becomes a synthesizer; leggings make the sounds of hi-hats.
