Ghosts
Ralph Ziman might be new to the gallery world, he is no stranger to creativity. He directed videos for artists like Michael Jackson and Ozzy Osbourne, and he is the writer, director and producer of Hearts and Minds, the first South African indie feature film after apartheid. During the recording of a forthcoming film, he embarked on a side project which would turn into a six-month collab with several artisans from the streets of Johannesburg. Ziman asked them to create beaded sculptures of AK-47s, in the traditional Shona style. He then photographed the makers with their work. This Ghost photo series and the corresponding sculptures are on show at C.A.V.E. Gallery in Venice, California from 8th February onwards. The proceeds from the show go to Human Rights Watch.
