Jonas and the Sea
Jonas and the Sea is a classic story about a man who casts aside everything and everybody in pursuit of his dream. A dream we all share: the quest to find the place you can call home, wherever it is – even if it’s underwater. The makers of this short animated film are also on a quest: one towards 8500 euro to make sure this project gets a happy ending. Everyone can pitch in through crowdfunding.
It will be the debut film of Marlies van der Wel, illustrator and animator from Amsterdam. The character of Jonas isn’t based on Marlies – she’s a bit too young for that – but his concern for the environment and the quest to find his way home come straight from her. “When we grow up we all ask ourselves: Where do I want to be? Where am I happy? Where do I feel at home? I find these questions fascinating.”
The animation is already in production thanks to the support of the Dutch Film Funds, but they still need to raise 8500 euros to finish the film. This amount will allow Marlies to finish the production of the film and pay for distribution of the film. Those who fund, get something in return: tickets for the premiere, credits as Associate Producer or a framed still from the film.
