David Lynch: The Big Dream
The last feature film from David Lynch dates back to 2006 (Inland Empire), but he has not been able to flee our minds as he continues to haunt us – with his music this time. Lynch always felt connected with music and most notably, he produced and wrote lyrics for Julee Cruise’s albums ‘Floating into the Night’ and ‘The Voice of Love’, in collaboration with Angelo Badalamenti who composed and produced the music. Badalamenti is of course known for many of the Lynch soundtracks. The Twin Peaks theme, anyone?
Lynch also contributed to the soundtracks of ‘Wild at Heart’, ‘Twin Peaks: Fire Walk with Me’, ‘Mulholland Drive’, and ‘Rabbits’. In 2001, he released ‘BlueBob’, a rock album performed by himself and John Neff and in 2008, he started his own record label ‘David Lynch MC’. November 2010, Lynch released two electro pop music singles, ‘Good Day Today’ and ‘I Know’, with British indie label Sunday Best Recordings. These singles were followed by Lynch’s first album ‘Crazy Clown Time’, an electronic blues album.
Recently, he has announced his follow-up album ‘The Big Dream’ and the first single and its B-side have been released on YouTube (seee below). The single ‘Star Dream Girl’ is upbeat and rock’n’roll, about a woman who “people can’t wait to see” while they “come from miles around” in order to see and dream her. The B-side sounds more like typical Lynch, Badalamenti and Julee Cruise – but darker. Fortunately, Lynch’s voice is not soiled with the heavy vocoders and FX which characterised ‘Crazy Clown Time’.
The album will be released on 15th July.
