While the high-heel originally originates from the male wardrobe, emerging at the back of the shoe in order to coordinate their horses in battle more efficiently – by now the high heel is something that is predominantly associated with female dress. The high-heel a form of power dressing comes in a large variety of shapes and sizes. Valerie Steel curator of The Museum at the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York recently published a book depicting the phenomenon of the high heel. Shoe Obsessions showcases an array of designs from shoe designers like Manolo Blahnik, Pierre Hardy, and Christian Louboutin, prominent design houses including Azzedine Alaïa, Balenciaga, and Alexander McQueen, and avant-garde styles by Kei Kagami and Noritaka Tatehana.
