STRANGERS THAN PARADISE

TildaW-Fashiontography-10
Is there anything Tilda Swinton can do wrong? Takes a nap occasionally in a glass vitrine at the MOMA, plays a female version of David Bowie and does his opening speech for him at the Bowie is… exhibition at the Victoria and Albert Museum. Will we ever forget her performances in the movies Orlando, Io Sono L’amore or any other movie for that matter, even the ones that were less remarkable (Narnia)? She’s accessible and completely weirdly awkward in the same time. She recently was shot for the May issue of W Magazine by photographer Tim Walker. ‘Strangers Than Paradise’ was shot near the subtropical town of Xilitla, Mexico at Las Pozas (The Pools), the estate of British poet and patron of the Surrealist art movement Edward James. The estate was built between 1949-1984 and is filled with natural waterfalls and pools mixed in with concrete surrealist sculptures creating a somewhat Garden of Eden for the arts – exactly how Edward James had intended it. The perfect setting for a character like Tilda.
