New York Underground 1970-1980

Veretta-Cobler-07

When you get the chance and find some old Playboys from the 70ies or 80ies you’ll see that there is some absolutely fantastic photography. Not because there is the obvious nudity – but the actual photography was created with such care and technique it makes you wonder why photography isn’t like that anymore now a days. I know, digital blab bla bla, multiple reasons. I sometimes research those photographers from back in the days and see what they are up to now. I have to say it is often quite disappointing. You might end up on a site that seems to do bridal photography or it is so generic and ‘yes’ digital it could go straight to an image bank. Same thing with New York photographer Veretta Cobler, I advise not to go to her site – but the photography she shot back in the days of the New York party scene is amazing. She even published a book years ago entitled New York Underground 1970-1980, which depicted exactly the vibe in a raw and uncensored way. Check out the images below.
