Some of us might still remember the golden days of the Supermodel era in the good old 1990ies. Models back then were considered an elevated art form – becoming a celebrity of sorts. In that time a ton of movies were released on the glamorous life of the fashion industry, for example Robert Altman’s Prêt-à-Porter. Next to that also the music industry tapped into this phenomena. Most memorable is probably George Michael’s ‘Freedom! 90’ and ‘Too Funky’, featuring supermodels like Linda Evangelista, Nadja Auermann, Emma Sjöberg, Estelle Hallyday, Shana Zadrick, Tyra Banks, Naomi Campbell, Tatjana Patitz, Christy Turlington, and Cindy Crawford. ‘Too Funky’ was renowned for its futuristic fashion design by Thierry Mugler, who also directed the video. Now 21 years later the original directors cut was leaked on the web a few days ago – which shows a bit of a different take on the storyline, a bit more coherent and features more models male and female. Nice 90ies flashback!
