From Catwalk to Sidewalk

February 10th the Kunsthal in Rotterdam will open it’s retrospective exhibition of Jean Paul Gaultier – penned From Sidewalk To Catwalk. And it seems that Jean Paul Gaultier took some inspiration of Holland’s national pride for his latest menswear show; The Redlight District. Giving a new meaning to the title of the exhibition. Male models presented the collection in a classic behind the window scene: reddish pink neon lights, plastic curtains and a black barstool while they stripped away the collection that was obviously largely inspired by the aspect of undressing (partial nude colors, rip away pants, easy-access zippers). Unfortunately no NSFW action – like JPG used to do. Even the idea of the illegal East-European charlatan was represented. I think years ago they even tried to have male hookers in the Redlight District in Amsterdam but it didn’t prove to be successful enough. This might change now.
