VELLIES

Vellies are desert boots manufactured by Schier Shoes and it is definitely the shoe brand to watch for 2013. It launched in 2010 under the creative direction of Kyle Tregurtha. Tregurtha grew up in Johannesburg and now splits his time between New York, USA and Swaskopmund, Namibia. The Vellies are made out of a type of antelope leather named Kudu and produced by a small group of Damara gentleman who by hand deliver 20 pairs in one afternoon. No worries, the antelopes come in such a big population it is a government controlled service, pretty much like Bloomberg ordering us to make shoes out of rats. The antelope leather though is of a wild kind, so it has its wildlife type of ‘imperfections’. Besides the fact that the Vellies are a high quality product Mr. Tregurtha has managed to introduce some very exciting designs and collaborations with people like William Okpo. Favorites are the Neon Toes, Springbok Erongo and The Blue Plastic Vellie. Check it out!
