SPFW FW 13: Vitorino Campos

Written by Maite Catti

He is SPFW’s youngest designer with only 24 years and showing on fashion week for the second time. He again showed a very intelligently made collection. He took his inspiration from the desert in Mexico, exhaling a certain silence and isolation, something much needed in today’s fast paced world according to Vitorino.

The collection started with nude coloured pieces, round volumes in the sleeves, progressing with a more slick, full metallic look. Which surprisingly did not appear futuristic at all, as it gave a soft and feminine but powerful look. Again we saw his experiment with stripes, this time in colourful, oversized tops on pleaded mini skirts.

Q&A with Vitorino Campos

What is your collection about?
As we are living in such a hectic and digital world I wanted to create an isolated, silence space. I took my inspiration from a desert in Mexico, which is why I used the earthy nude tones, and later in the collection I added colours like pink to give it more warmth.

In your previous and latest collection you use a lot of stripes on the garments, why this preference for stripes?
I don’t know, since the beginning, when I draw I somehow end up using stripes as a print, it is something that comes natural.

Will we ever see you showing garments with dots as a print?
No, don’t think so!

What makes you different from other Brazilian designers?
I try to design simplistically and try to build my own universe within this philosophy.

You are very young (24) for a designer already showing at fashion week, what are your plans for the future?
I don’t make plans for the future, I just let it all happen!
