NIKE x GYAKUSOU

Recently Nike has released their latest line in collaboration with Undercover Gyakusou by Jun Takahashi. In Amsterdam the collection was presented in style, for an intimate group of invitees who got to sit down for a nice Japanese lunch to discover the story behind the collection. Read more about it after the jump.

The video above shows the inspiration behind the collection: the love for running and for nature. The video shows four Team Gira runners who are at a training camp in the mountains of Nagano, Japan near the Togakushi Shrine, where the ninja’s would trainvin the old days. Their training is not just about staying fit; their pursuit is to archieve enlightment through perseverance, endurance and patience.

For this collection, which is already the fifth (but certainly not the last!) collaboration with Nike,  Takahashi explored the real meaning of Gyakusou; ‘running in reverse’ in English. Reconnecting with his Japanese roots Takahashi explored nature of Nagano, which made him reconnect with Japan’s rich history. The colour palette is drawn from this, with colours taken from nature or from tradition, but some garments feature a more direct influence of nature: leave patterns which in a way provide a camouflage for the autumn runner.
