Sorry for bursting your bubble
Karssenberg-Greidanus opened their SS13 show at Amsterdam Fashion Week spectacularly by having a model walk out from the side door covered in a huge balloon. When she finished walking the runway she burst the bubble and the show was on! Other models came out wearing wellies and heels covered in mud, as if they had just come from a fieldtrip to a swamp.
The duo was inspired by the rain, which makes sense as the Dutch summer is the most rainy season of the year! Garments were made of rubber or latex, plastic and jersey. Many items featured steel hooks and eyes, trademark of Karssenberg-Greidanus who like to frequent the hardware stores as much as fabric stores. Tops covered in glass like materials reminded of Alexander McQueen’s infamous bloodred dress covered in glass medical slides from his VOSS collection.
Moving as the models were walking down the runway, they seemed to imitate waterdrops. Several heads were covered up to expose just the eyes, a nomadic influende or a statement towards the current anti-muslim politics of the notorious Dutch politician with the bad haircut?
The collection featured several mouthwatering raincoats (whoever knew I wanted to own one after highschool trauma’s of oversized baglike rain outfits?) and jersey dresses that looked incredibly soft. A rubbery bodysuit featured detachable rubber legspieces: for easy transition between hot weather (hotpants!) and those colder summerdays. Practical as well as fashionable. Want!
