Childish Gambino vs Beck

Written by Niem Tewarie

Well, Childish Gambino certainly is the new rapboy in town with his distinguishing appearance and music style. For his new record ‘Silk Pillow’ he teamed up with oldtime favourite Beck. It’s an unexpected collaboration, to say the least. Beck co-produced the song and –a nice to know fact is- apparently this is the first time since 2006 he raps on a record. Silk Pillow is a hiphop tune with a soft pop flow which makes it accessible for all audiences.

The man behind Childish Gambino is multitalented comedian/actor Donald Glover. Actually he is best known for his writers work for NBC sitcom 30Rock for which he received a Writers Guild of America nomination in 2009.

Donald about his rap alter ego: “I’m influenced by LCD Soundsystem as much as Ghostface Killah,” he says. “A lot of the rap shows I saw as a kid were boring, but if you went to a Rage show or a Justice show, the kids were losing their minds. Kids just want to go nuts, Odd Future know that. People want to experience something physical.” (The Guardian)

His breakthrough album, called Camp, was released in 2011. Silk Pillow comes from his upcoming mixtape Royalty which will be released shortly.
