HILFIGER DENIM LIVE SPECIAL: PEACHES

The annual Hilfiger Denim Live, an evening full of refreshing performances by upcoming, as well as more established artists, is coming to Amsterdam for the 4th time in a row. This edition features Wavves, Smith Westerns, Go Back To The Zoo, Tennis, Dominant Legs, Mr Wix, Spacegirls and the ever rocking Peaches. In anticipation of a night of fun we had a quick interview with the goddess herself.

BLEND\: Your last album ‘I Feel Cream’ was released in 2009. In 2010 you performed ‘Peaches Christ Superstar’ on your own, celebrated the ten year anniversary of your first album ‘The Teaches of Peaches’ with a rock opera, appeared as Marsha Thirteen in ‘Ivory Tower’ and collaborated with Christina Aguilera on her album ‘Bionic’. What can we expect in the future from you? Are you working on a new album?

Peaches: I just finished performing in the role of Orfeo in the Monteverdi Opera, L’Orfeo. There was a cast of six trained Opera singers, A baroque orchestra called Kaleidoskop and me. It took six months just to learn the melodies, rhythms and Italian. I don’t speak Italian nor do I read music. I basically had to create my own language in order to learn my parts. I also just finished producing a cool band from Taiwan called Go Chic! I have a single coming out sometime this summer and I will continue to do may DJ/MC shows and make music.

You have appeared in many television shows, but your appearance as ‘Marsha Thirteen’ in ‘Ivory Tower’ was your first appearance as a character other than yourself. Also your ‘Peaches Christ Superstar’ is inspired on the script of the famous musical film. Are you interested in doing more acting or are there any other media besides singing, DJing and acting, you would like to experience? Do you get the same satisfaction from DJing and acting as from a live show performance?

My dj shows are not just djing behind a table. I make it a performance. My main medium is performance, music has been the most satisfying outlet for me so far but I’m up for a challenge.

You are an icon of feminism and gender identity and in an interview with ‘New York Daily News’, you stated: ‘I’m going to make aging cool’. How have you tried to influence the image of aging? Any thoughts on a new theme you want to inhabit and taboos you want to break?

Right now I’m into breaking my own habits and challenging myself .

How do you feel about the image culture we live in, with which I mean the image that you have created in the beginning of your career, do you feel pressured by your fans and the society to hold on to this image? Do you ever feel like you’re done with the rebellish, underground reputation you’ve gained?

Hey its a cool reputation. I’m not mad at it or the people who appreciate what I’ve done.

You can catch Peaches, as well as Wavves, Smith Westerns, Go Back To The Zoo, Tennis, Dominant Legs, Mr Wix and Spacegirls in Paradiso, Amsterdam on Wednesday May 30. Get your tickets here.
