LA Vampires By Octo Octa: Freedom 2K
Written by Sander van Dalsum
The quest that many artists go on to obtain eternal nostalgia is often trite, and comes across as a desperate attempt to sound authentic. However, there are musicians that effortlessly lay down a groove that makes you long for an era you didn’t witness.
Supported by the lavish and deep productions of Octo Octa, Amanda Brown is getting intoa state of ecstasy. Under the alias ‘LA Vampires’, she explores tropes of early 90s House, and with the track ‘Freedom 2K’ she discovers the warmth that the New York dance scene had in said time.
Being the head of the Californian ‘Not Not Fun’ imprint, Brown has been releasing many cassettes and vinyl records containing the abstract, the weird, and mainly the noisy parts of the musical hemisphere. Last year, she started putting out music through a sister-label named 100% Silk. Luxury, House, and infinite nights on the dance floor are just a few keywords that should describe the catalogue of this new endeavor.
After having released 12”s of Ital, Fort Romeau, Peaking Lights, and a bunch more –the Silk fam is going on the road this spring. As they’ll tour through Europe, they will also make a stop at Amsterdam’s OT301 on May 31st. We highly recommend hanging out there to catch some of the finest acts the label has to offer.
