Oh, Brave Wide Eyes on Tour

Their debut-EP “The Tascam Recordings” hadn’t even cooled down yet from the press, or two months later Utrecht-based indie-folk band Oh, Brave Wide Eyes packed their bags and headed off to tour Switzerland. This is a brief report of their adventure.

“So far our EP was only downloadable from our Bandcamp page, but for the tour we decided to make some physical copies to sell after the shows; it’s a good way to give people a reminder of the evening. As you can see, Casper put all the sweat of his brow into the fabrication of a stamp to decorate the covers.

He finished just in time for us to catch the night-train Tuesday evening, to arrive at Zurich HB the following morning. It’s a pretty chill way to travel, since we love trains, and you’re unconscious for half of the trip anyway. In Zurich, we stayed at the house of a good friend and fellow-musician, Christina Maria. She has the raddest house you’ll ever see; a 200-year old farm, heated by wood only, where they live with 7 people, 2 cats, and a dozen of sheep.

Christina was also the one who had arranged our gigs. The first one was that very evening in Zurich, at Kafi fur Dich. It was an amazing evening with quite some crowd in the end, and the EP’s were selling like hotcakes. The following day we went on to Tuhn, a very idyllic city on the edge of the mountains. Luckily, there was also plenty of time to just walk around and enjoy the sights. Again, the show was real special; the Swiss make a good listening crowd. The next stop was Baden, where we played at the official opening of a Swiss designer’s own clothing line, in a lunchroom/shop/music venue/bed and breakfast. We got an amazing room, waking up energized the next morning to head back to Zurich.

We arrived there early and had the whole day to ourselves, so we decided to walk around the city. We found a huge flea-market where we got ourselves a nice new suitcase for our merch and cables. We were invited to a barbecue and spent the entire afternoon in the park with a group of friends of Christina. Touring isn’t that bad, really. That evening we played our last show, together with Christina, in someone’s living-room! Very sweet people, and we completely sold out all we had brought with us.

Those days went by too fast and before we knew it, it was Sunday! Time to prepare ourselves for the trip home and say our goodbyes to Zurich. We took one final walk through the city, climbed some towers, went to some art-exhibitions and then had a lovely dinner with our hosts, who made us a Swiss specialty: Spätzli.

All in all, this tour was everything we love about making music. Being able to travel with your music, and sharing it with people around the world.. It doesn’t get better than that. If touring is always like this, we can get used to it. On to the next one!”
