RA Paris | The Bohemian Style Satellite
Written by Joyce Bidouzo-Coudray – Paris
Subsequently initiating a series of exhibitions and fashion events at their temporary space in the Marais district during women’s and men’s fashion weeks for the past 2 years, RA further consolidates its presence in the city of lights with a celestial emporium of fashion idiosyncrasies.
Although entirely emended, the blue prints of the new RA Paris flagship articulates an anthem that is somewhat more analog than that of its Antwerp precursor. Here too, one may be dazzled by the conceptual selection of praise worthy fashion talents and artists scoping the world over…several of whom have been nurtured by RA from their early graduation works to their present-day international recognition.
RA Paris imposes more than a mere extension of its original Antwerp retail concept. The new store will operate as an artistic and fashion satellite in its own right. Channeling a new focus on the era of bespoke creation. With its 1920’s“salon” inspired décor, the venture is the latest personal project of RA founders Anna Kushnerova and Romain Brau, who both infused their creative visions by collaborating with traditional masters in metal by the likes of Eduard Arutjnian – for the monumental front doors – and with Brussel’s Atelier de Peinture de la Monnaie for the carved wood screens which together with the layered curtains, create shifting scenographies.
With the essence of the theater of the absurd and symbolism instilled throughout the space, RA Paris is an intimate showcase for modern couture archetypes. Unique pieces from London’s artisanal designer Meadham Kirchhoff, eveningwear by Serkan Cura, millinery by Nasir Mazhar, and one of a kind handcrafted costume jewelery from Heaven Tanudiredja. Other designers by the likes of Damir Doma, Henrik Vibskov, Niels Peeraer, Opening Ceremony, Rad Ourani or Rodarte (to name bu a few) are complemented by an opulent selection of vintage garments from houses such as Chanel, Alaïa and Mugler, evoking the decadence of a bygone era.
In true Bohemian spirit, RA Paris also hosts a string of lineal events, including readings, art performances and intimate fashion shows.
The space is set to become a living part of the Paris fashion equation, inspiring designers and artists to explore new potentialities. The unique connection with RA Antwerp will continue to evolve, creating an enriched artistic dialogue between the two cities.
