Alouette Lamp by Miles Keller
Miles Keller brings us a pendant lamp based on the design of Canada’s first satellite, Alouette, that was launched in 1962. Although it has been shut down a long time ago, the satellite is still in orbit. “In this context, the original shape and proportions are preserved while the satellite itself is re-imagined and repurposed.”
The Alouette Lamp is shipped disassembled and packed flat. Assembly is easy and can be done in about 10 minutes, since the shell is held in place with a system of laser-cut tabs and holes, the only fasteners are two five inch diameter o-rings top and bottom.
Although the materials and shipping might seem inexpensive, the little gem will set you back at about $750,-. But, if you pre-order early, the maker will reward you by giving you a small share of the profits made, which will make you approximately $681 per 100 units sold. There are 18 more preorders available and the lamp goes into production in a month. If you’re interested get the details at Idealicious.
